Climate Change

Climate Change Task Force Report

In December 2008, Council established the Climate Change Task Force to deliver a Strategic Plan on Climate Change that would identify risks, describe opportunities within APEGBC’s regulatory role, and make recommendations to Council.

In receiving the report, Council directed staff to send for review and comment a copy of the Climate Change Task Force Report to various APEGBC committees, divisions and boards. Council also directed that the financial impact of the recommendations be determined.

Upon reviewing the comments of various stakeholder groups, Council gave the following directions:

  1. That the Governance Committee draft the terms of reference to establish a Climate Change and Adaptation Advisory Group.
  2. That the education of members about climate change adaptation and mitigation be encouraged through CPD seminars, articles in Innovation and practice guidelines.
  3. That the Association engage in government relations activities on climate change adaptation and mitigation issues when the issue impacts the practices of professional engineering and geoscience.
  4. That Registration Committee examine and undertake consultation regarding the inclusion of climate change mitigation and/or adaptation as a work experience and knowledge requirement for registration.
  5. That the Professional Practice Committee determine when climate change mitigation and/or adaptation should be made a requirement in practice guidelines.
